Valerian powder 4 oz
Valeriana officinalis probabably has it's greatest historical use as a sedative and nervine. It works well in most of those using it, to help calm one and help them collect their thoughts whether from hyperactivity or from emotional distress, hormonal fluctuations, etc. In the few that it excites, it is due to their body not breaking it down thouroughly. It is a wonderful herb for insomnia and even for delterium tremons in alcohol and drug withdrawal. Some people find a reduction in blood pressure (due to their decrease in reacting to stress). It can also be used as a part of a massage oil and is readily used by the spine to move it to the nervous system. It can often also be used by the body in issues with tinnitus (ears ringing). Constipations and headaches caused by nervous tension can also be relieved by this herb. The herb root does have a strong 'dirty socks' type of smell to it, which I find fascinating as it is one of the sweetest smelling flowers in the garden!
